Launch of the Internatonal Future Lab AI4EO

Launch of the International Future Lab AI4EO

Today is the official launch date of the International Future Lab AI4EO, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with a budget of about 5 million Euros. The Future Lab will bring together 27 researchers from 20 international organizations across nine countries to drive the development of AI earth observation technologies.

“The goal of the Future Lab AI4EO is to consolidate Germany’s pole position in this field,” says Prof. Xiaoxiang Zhu, who is serving as the Lab’s director. To realize this goal, members of the research team will be taking a holistic and interdisciplinary approach – not only to develop new methods for earth observation, but to answer fundamental questions about the reliability and accuracy of AI technologies.

Take a look at our recent paper by @gawlikowskij @PWJEbel @xiaoxiang_zhu et al on how clouds affect #EarthObservation downstream applications. #AI4EO https://twitter.com/PWJEbel/status/1594977731309191169

Patrick Ebel @PWJEbel

Curious how clouds affect remote sensing applications, such as land cover classification? @gawlikowskij, Michael Schmitt at @unibw_m, @xiaoxiang_zhu and me provide an analysis and interpretation of the effects of cloud coverage!
